As an eco-friendly company we produce quality items that help to reduce the carbon footprint of both the company and the consumer.
All products are Canadian and handmade from vintage and sustainable fabrics using local suppliers.
Each product not only gives the fabric a second life but also has more then one use.
The company was established to incorporate a family history of protecting the environment, especially our fresh water supply by recycling fabric.
Inspired by Albertine Peppler, who protected the lake water, at the family cottage as early as the 1940’s. She would not allow anyone to use soap in the lake. With no running water, water had to be hand pumped into a big tub for bathing, shampooing or laundry. The dirty water was discarded back in the bush, more then a hundred-fifty feet from the shore line. This was a natural way to filter the soapy water from seeping into the lake. Her husband, Jacob, a furniture upholsterer took his shops, fabric scraps and sewed them into blankets that still grace the family cottage, 50 years later.
Albertine Dawn transforms discarded fabric into home and fashion accessories.
Fabric comes from a variety of sources. High quality fabric from drapery and men’s shirts lends itself to be transformed into new products. Some fabric comes with
a story and some even had a part in the film industry.
All fabric is thoroughly cleaned and assessed for its quality and durability prior to its transformation. It may take several months before a fabric is made into a product, awaiting a coordinating fabric or inspirational design.
I hope you enjoy the products as much as we enjoyed making them.
